Most things require nuanced thinking, something many people seem to be challenged with doing. We are often forced to choose sides as if everything is a sports game. But life is not that simple. Like you said, the people are not necessarily representative of their governments. We can’t blame them for what their government does. God forbid anyone blame us for what our country is doing right now!! We certainly oppose every inhumane act taking place, though we often feel helpless to stop it. Anyway, all of this is to say I hear you and support you whole heartedly. Sorry this world sucks sometimes. ✨🙏✨

"Hatred is never that nuanced." So true.

While I am not Jewish, I have struggled with this dichotomous response, too. The cancel culture of the left is extremely problematic and unnecessarily polarizing. And as you've so painstakingly laid out, immensely harmful.

I stand with you in love for all people, Jewish, Israeli, Palestinian, Russian, Ukrainian, American, etc while standing firmly against evil leaders and they who support them.

You belong. May you be and feel safe. 🩵

Thanks, Debi. I appreciate and value your feedback. Just today I read two more articles blaming the Jewish people for the situation in Gaza and condemning not only Israel and all Jews. This is so painful. And scary. I've never experienced so much casual antisemitism, implicit and explicit, in the general public discourse. It's frightening

Such simplistic thinking is so damaging. If we as Americans don't want to be lumped together as Trump supporters, why would we assume all Israelis, let alone all Jews, support Netanyahu and the attrocities happening next door?... I'm sorry. 😖

Thank you for sharing this Jeff. Your writing is powerful, thoughtful, and deeply human. I could feel how much heart and pain went into every paragraph.

As an Israeli, some parts really hit close to home. It’s hard to put certain feelings into words, but reading your piece made me feel a little less alone.

These are especially heavy times, and I don’t always know what to say or how to say it. But I do believe things will get better, they have to. There’s no other option.

Sending warmth and appreciation from across the world 🧡

Thanks, Maya. It means a lot to me that you took the time to read and comment. It was a very tough piece to write. And it felt so risky putting it out there. Enjoy your travel adventures. I look to reading more about them. 💛✌️
